Funding for Local Video Project comes from O'Connor and you can be part of it too!
GRLIC,
the Greater Roxbury Learning Initiative Corporation, a not-for-profit
foundation that operates in the public interest to encourage a prosperous, sustainable
future through education and experience in engineering, science, technology and
innovation
has been awarded a $5000 O’Connor Grant to bring hands-on video production to
the students of the Greater Roxbury area.
The
grant will cover the costs of purchasing editing software and a small HD video
camera that will be accessible to the students involved in GRLIC programs. The
grant also covers the costs of a Mentorship program, to be conducted by Jessica
Vecchione of Vecc Videography, Hamden NY.
The
Mentorship program will allow a small group of students to plan, shoot, and
edit a five to seven minute video project. The subject of the video will
pertain to news media in Delaware County.
The video created in this mentorship program will be
distributed on social media and through the news outlets featured in the video.
The community will be able to access and view the end result and see the
students’ work. Video links will be forwarded to local government officials and
other community members for viewing.
Video
production is a growing field where young people will need good preparation to
compete effectively for college and later for media careers. This O’Connor
Grant will help Roxbury students get the experience they need.
This
grant is a matching funds grant and additional donations to continue this
program are greatly appreciated. Please send additional donations to GRLIC, PO
Box 263, Roxbury, NY 12474.

Meet Kevin Hodne, the workshop
facilitator:
I have written over $7 million
in grants in the areas of education (K-12 and college), agriculture, and
economic and community development. My goal in this workshop is to draw on my twenty
years of experience in grant development to provide students with the knowledge
and skills to write successful grant proposals.
Grant opportunities are available, but you face tough competition. To
win a grant your proposal must be compelling and well-crafted. I enjoy teaching this workshop series and
have been happy to see that former students have learned new skills and won
grants. For more information, call me at 607-434-8254 or send me an email at

Feedback on Kevin Hodne’s Writing Successful Grant
Proposals Workshop…
Kevin Hodne's workshop, Writing Successful Grant
Proposals, allowed me to get my brain around the concepts and process
of putting together a successful grant proposal. Kevin has the experience and
an infectious enthusiasm which he brings to teaching this class.

The workshop that I've just completed with you—Writing
Successful Grant Proposals—was exactly what I had hoped for. It was "clear, concise and compelling" which
were the three elements you pointed out in the terrific materials you provided
to the class. When ready, I'll be back for you to review my grant
proposal. Thank you.
Diane Nixon
I attended Kevin Hodne's Writing Successful Grant
Proposals Class in January 2008. I had never written a grant proposal
before. I appreciated the time he spent going over my particular proposal
and the suggestions he made to improve my chances of getting this proposal
accepted. The class interaction was very special, too. He
professionally facilitated the interchange of ideas and has great teaching
techniques. I would recommend this class to any grant
seekers.

Kevin Hodne reveals grantwriting to be a masterable and
navigable art, not the futile and intimidating undertaking it is generally
perceived to be. Grants are there to be given and we can earn them. Kevin Hodne
transforms one's thinking, and thereby increases one's chances of success.

The grant workshop was very organized and well planned. It
was very helpful to see your documentation on grants—seeing these helped me
know the many processes in writing a successful proposal.
Joe
Salamida
I was happy to see that you specifically addressed the
projects of the participants and that you gave us the opportunity to present
our work. Your critique of our projects was invaluable.
Allicia
Rice
The grant workshop helped me understand how to organize all
the components in writing grant proposals. By taking it step-by-step I was able
to better understand the process and I now feel confident in our endeavors.
Susan
Roche
Kevin is very passionate about this program—he keeps you
interested in the material and has a great knowledge base. The materials
provided were helpful and appreciated. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Mary
Beth Dowling
The grant workshop provided tons of practical information on
developing grantwriting teams, and in organizing and coordinating the work.
Real life examples of successful grants were terrific!
Deni
Finch-Frederick
Thank you ever so much for personalizing the grantwriting
class by pointing out library and fire department grants. The notebook was a
great reference which we will use in our continued efforts to secure grants. A
great hands-on workshop.
Barb
Price
I rate the class as excellent. The materials were
well-covered.
Ray
Doucette
The grant workshop has been a great experience. I really
enjoyed the class and hope I can help my husband with his grants. I was also
hoping to find grants for my son’s marching band to get new uniforms. Thanks
for sharing all your knowledge with us.
